Ok girls, I tried to change the address for this blog, but those options are not available to me when I click settings. I know how to do it, and where to look from my own blog, but it is not here for some reason. I'm thinking that it may be because I am not the creator of this blog - Megs, you might be the only one who can change this.
DYNAMITE!

I think I can see the significance of the title. We can discuss that on Tuesday. As for the goddam and old I guess the author is just trying to create the way a character talks. We all have things we say a lot and that's it for Holden. He also always say "it kills me" meaning he likes something a lot. This was also written in the 40's so that might explain it too.
I agree with the spelling of the address and I noticed it too Lisa. Since we are a book club we should at least have our name spelled right. ;)
I can see a couple of themes in the book that aren't totally obvious. The english major in me tends to analyze what I read to find a deeper meaning. One thing I like about the book is that it's all taking place over a period of a couple of days with flashbacks thrown in. Most books are drawn out over a long period of time.

I do exist!
Wow, I see from all the posts that I have been missing out on quite a bit - I'll try to read/post here more often from now on...I have a request - the address for the site is misspelled :) Can I have permission from everyone to fix it? dyamite should be dyNamite :) I'm sorry I can't help it, I think its just the teacher in me...I'll wait until everyone gives the OK though before I do anything...
Now on to the book - I think I just read the section where they reveal why the book is named "the catcher in the rye", but I am unsure of the significance just yet. I'll keep reading...
I have mentioned before my annoyance with the book is the constant use of words like "Goddam" in places where they hardly seem necessary, and I don't think they add anything to the book in most uses...Kind of like the annoyance you are having with adding "old" before everyone's names...
Honestly, I am unsure how much I like this book right now...The writing style was amusing at first, but I feel that it prevents the book from having a nice flow, and I really like my books to have nice flow to them...
Ok, I'm currently making myself late for church, so I will post more thoughts later today or tomorrow...

Bring on P!
Yes I think that the P theme should be the theme of the second book club meeting. Though it has nothing to do with the book it's a fun idea. I will have some pizza appetizers and pretzels, Krista you can bring the pecan cupcakes, someone can purchase some pepsi and perhaps pomegranite martinis. Oh and possibly some peanuts and pineapple. Oh and I forgot popcorn and popsicles. ;)

title
In case anyone is interested - the title comes from page 173 (in my book) towards the end of chapter 22.

Theme?
I am 3/4 of the way through, and have still not found out why the book is named as it is, lol.
As for the next book club, I think the theme should be "Things beginning with the letter P" That way we could have the Pizza thingies, and the Pecan cupcakes, and anything else beginning with P. Like the wine could be Pinot, the drink could be Pepsi, there could be Pretzels, and Peanuts - I dunno, just a thought?

Cupcakes....
I am about a third of the way into the book. So far liking it. The only thing that bugs me is that every one is old eg. Ackley but we call him Old Ackley.
Sarah I have a butter pecan cake mix and icing, I can make this up and bring cupcakes. Let me know.
Lisa awesome choice I have been wanting to read this book for a while. Megs you remember The Time Traveler's Wife. It is supposed to be something like that book.

The second book meeting.
I am about a third of the way through "The Catcher in the Rye". I'm liking it for far, sometimes I just have to laugh at some of the things Holden says. It's like being in the mind of a 16 year old guy. I'm still wondering where the title comes from but I guess I will find that out as I read more. As for the food theme for my meeting I am up for any suggestions. I bought some little pizza appetizer things and I will probably make some cupcakes or something too. What kind of a theme could we have?

Starting the book tonight
I brought the book today. I am just as excited to read this book as I was to read my choice. Lisa H two good choices for your book. Sarah I was think that it would be cool if we thought of a theme to the food for your night? Lisa H you can catch a ride with me.
Book Selection
I was thinking... it might not be a great idea to post what we think about the book in this blog - then what will we talk about at the book club meetings? What do you guys think?
Also, I've been trying to figure out a book to pick for my turn. Has anyone read "The Memory Keeper's Daughter"? Or "The Children of Men"? I have both of these and am going to read them, and they both sound interesting, so I figured one of these would be my best pick.
Let me know :-)

The first offical meeting of our (insert name here) book club was a roring scucess. "Night Swim" for all that is was found in the baran book section was a good read. It's wierd but some of my favorite books I have gotten from the bargin section or second hand book stores. I don't know what everyone wants to do here but I figured we could pre-descuss the book and when we are all scattered at the end of the summer, we can use it to have our meetings.
Yes, next meeting at Sarah's on July 24 for Catcher in the Rye.

So the plan for our next one is July 24 at Sarah's? I'm going to need directions for this :-) Or a ride, lol.
